A path to a fallen tree

“The mind cannot resist change any more than a tree can stop growth.” (Richard Powers, The
Overstory)
Puente is pleased to announce its second London show, A path to a Fallen Tree. The show features the works of Costa Rican artists Luciano Goizueta and Rene Gonzalez. Through metabiological relationships, the show follows, in parallelism, two artists and two paths traveling towards a common destination: the fallen tree. Using the allegorical figure of the tree, these works surface our complex relationships with other beings in nature, in both physical and immaterial form.

A path to the Fallen Tree replicates the stages of life, decay, and rebirth. When a tree falls, it returns to the earth as organic matter, replenishing the ground that gave it life, from which new life will spring. Ascending from and returning to the soil, trees anchor their roots into barren land. Bare and exposed, they wither with coming weather, branches break, leaves fall, roots loosen as seasons pass. In the human experience, death and rebirth cycles lever on an emotional tally: disconnection and suffering tend to precede pivotal moments of growth. Only after we experience great suffering can we be born anew.
